It can sometimes be difficult to find ways to stay healthy, so we’ve asked members of our Baylor College of Medicine community to share what they do in their daily lives to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Dr. ZoAnn Dreyer, professor of pediatrics – oncology at Baylor College of Medicine and the Texas Children’s Cancer Center and Chief of the Long-Term Survivor’s Clinic at Texas Children’s Hospital, shares some of her healthy habits.
Q: What healthy decisions start your day?
A: Yogurt breakfast
Q: What is your favorite type of exercise?
A: Working out with a trainer at gym three times weekly
Q: What keeps you motivated during your workout? (music, tv, phone call, etc.).
A: A great personal trainer!
Q: What activities do you do when you can’t fit in a full workout?
Q: What is your favorite healthy snack?
A: Dry white cheese like Parmesan; wonton strip salad toppings make a great low-cal, low fat snack
Q: Do you take vitamins and if so, which ones?
Q: How do you make an unhealthy recipe healthy?
Nothing fried, yogurt for sour cream, low-fat margarine
Q: What is your nighttime skincare regimen?
A: Lots of wrinkle creams and moisturizers 🙂
Q: What hobbies do you have to help you relax?
A: Gym, reading, relax at the lake house
Q: What is your go-to Houston restaurant for a healthy meal?
A: Tough … My Fit Foods but it is not really a restaurant. I try to be healthy the huge majority of the time and pick wisely at restaurants but definitely splurge on red meat and Mexican food.
Q: Do you use a pedometer or Fitbit and what is your daily step goal?
A: Step app on phone but not much else.
Q: What is your favorite health tip that you live by?
A: Light breakfast, bring lunch such as My Fit Foods, Lean Cuisine, etc. I almost never buy lunch as it is way too easy to be tempted. Also, gym, gym, gym with a trainer – that makes me work MUCH harder – and a fairly light dinner, especially My Fit Foods or lean meat and salads.
