Celebrating National DNA Day

In 1998, the Human Genome Sequencing Center at Baylor College of Medicine was chosen as one of three centers to finish the sequencing of the human genome.

By 2003, the Human Genome Project was completed, which provided new information about the function, structure, and organization of the complete set of human genes.

Since then, researchers at Baylor have successfully performed surgery on a human genome, assembled the Zika virus mosquito genome from scratch, and launched PreSeek, the first non-invasive prenatal multi-gene sequencing screen.

April 25 marks National DNA Day, which recognizes the completion of the Human Genome Project. Learn more about Baylor’s role in the Human Genome Project:
