New Baylor College of Medicine Medical Center opens doors
We are excited to announce that the Baylor College of Medicine Medical Center on the McNair Campus will be open to patients starting today, Nov. 25.
Gastroenterology, Orthopedics, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and most of the Urology clinics have moved from Baylor Clinic (6620 Main St.) to the 10th floor of the new Medical Center at 7200 Cambridge.
“These clinics were designed with the patient in mind and are the beginning of our future at the new facility,” said Wayne Keathley, president of the BCM Medical Center & Health Network, “From the moment patients arrive to our campus to receiving quality care from their healthcare team, the Baylor College of Medicine Medical Center will be setting new standards for what is possible in medicine today.”
Included in Phase 1 will be the opening of the Bobby R. Alford Educational Center, which will be the setting for seminars, conferences and Grand Rounds.
The BCM Medical Center will open as the second patient care facility on the McNair Campus. Already fully operational is the Lee and Joe Jamail Specialty Care Center, which includes the medical practices of psychiatry, ophthalmology, dermatology, plastic surgery and the Alzheimer’s clinic.
Both energy-efficient buildings were designed to bring a feel of nature indoors, using earthy colors like greens and browns as the palette for setting a relaxing tone for patients.
“We are fully prepared for the changes in healthcare that will be necessary in the future,” said Dr. Paul E. Klotman, Baylor College of Medicine president and CEO. “Patients must be at the center of every service we provide, and they must be confident they are receiving the finest care at the best value in a system that is easy to use, with high-level attention to safety and outcomes.”
What do you think of our new facilities?

Whom ever designed the new medical center had mausoleums in mind. You walk into all white marble expecting to see creches for urns and plaques for the caskets. I have never seen such a cold place for medical care before in my life. There is nothing warm and healthy about it. Whom ever designed or donated the funds and wanted this design did not have patients in mind. And for people with migraines and seizures —the glare of the sun on the marble reflecting all over the place —very pain. Very poorly thought out by someone.
Thanks for your feedback, CJ. The medical center is a work in progress and we hope you will stop back after the facility is completely finished. Have a great day!
The place needs more art… and plants…
