Healthy Habits: Dr. Roy Williams Jr. starts his day with exercise

It can sometimes be difficult to find ways to stay healthy, so we’ve asked members of our Baylor College of Medicine community to share what they do in their daily lives to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Dr. Roy Williams Jr., assistant professor in the Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, shares some of his healthy habits with us.

Answer: Working out and avoiding social media in the morning

Q: What is your go-to healthy breakfast?
A: Eggs, apple and milk

Q: What is your favorite type of exercise?
A: Weightlifting

Q: What keeps you motivated during your workout?
A: Motivational music mix and limiting screentime on the phone.

Q: What activities do you do when you can’t fit in a full workout?
A: 2-mile run (15 minutes) or 10-minute HITT workout.

Q: What is your favorite healthful snack?
A: Walnuts

Q: Do you take vitamins and if so, which ones?
A: Cod liver oil

Q: What do you include in your child’s lunch?
A: Chicken, broccoli and berries

Q: How do you make an unhealthy recipe healthy?
A: Use a plant-based carbohydrate instead of a starch (plant-based pasta, plant-based milk).

Q: What is your nighttime skin regimen?
A: Wash my face gently with soap.

Q: What hobbies do you have to help you relax?
A: Watching sports and playing strategy games.

A: Fish City Grill
