Healthy Habits: Dr. Fabrizia Faustinella takes dance classes, writes to relieve stress

It can sometimes be difficult to find ways to stay healthy, so we’ve asked members of our Baylor College of Medicine community to share what they do in their daily lives to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Dr. Fabrizia Faustinella, associate professor of family and community medicine at Baylor, shares some of her healthy habits with us.

Q: What health decisions start your day? Fabrizia-Faustinella-healthy-habits
A: I commit to reaching 10,000 steps daily and try to go above that.

Q: What is your go-to healthy breakfast?
A: My breakfast consists of a cappuccino with 2% milk and half a toast with homemade lemon jam. I don’t think this is a “power” breakfast, but I love my cappuccino and my jam. It makes me feel good to start the day with something I really enjoy.

Q: What is your favorite type of exercise?
A: Walking, jogging and dance classes. I also have a trainer at the gym. We meet twice per week. Working out with the trainer is hard, but it allows me to stay in shape – and I remind myself of that when it gets challenging.

Q: What keeps you motivated during your workout?
A: I know it’s good for me – not only to stay fit physically, but also mentally. Exercising is the best form of stress relief.

Q: Has the BCM BeWell Program encouraged any of your healthy habits?
A: Definitely. It’s been very helpful and motivating to set goals and do my best to achieve tangible results.

Q: What activities do you do when you can’t fit in a full workout?
A: I always try to walk.

Q: What is your favorite healthful snack?
A: I like fat-free Greek yogurt, which is a great source of protein.

Q: Do you take vitamins and if so, which ones?
A: I take a multivitamin, calcium and vitamin D.

Q: How do you make an unhealthy recipe healthy?
A: I avoid butter. My favorite cooking oil is Italian extra-virgin olive oil.

Q: What is your nighttime skin regimen?
A: I’ve used Tazorac in the past. Now, I still use it, but not on a regular basis. Usually, I apply to my skin whatever moisturizer cream I have available, such as Nivea and others.

Q: What hobbies do you have to help you relax?
A: Dancing and writing.

Q: What is your favorite health tip that you live by?
A: Eat everything, but in moderation and small portions. Avoid sweets and fried foods.
