Super Bowl champion turned orthopedic surgeon
For many, making a career change can seem like an overwhelming challenge. However, for retired NFL offensive lineman and chief of Sports Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, Dr. Mark Adickes, pursuing medical school after a seven-year professional football career seemed natural.
“Running out on to the Super Bowl field – that was a surreal moment,” said Adickes, who, along with his teammates, won the 1992 Super Bowl with the Washington Redskins.
After retiring from football, Adickes attended Harvard Medical School and completed residency training in orthopedic surgery and a fellowship in sports medicine.
Watch the interview below to see Adickes reflect on the 1992 Super Bowl and read more about his journey.
