Translational medicine might mean one thing to the scientific world, but to an artist, it is something completely different. For example, this cover illustration for the latest edition of Cancer Cell highlights research from an international collaboration lead by Baylor College of Medicine’s Human Genome Sequencing Center. The findings identified whole genome analysis of chromophobe renal cell carcinoma and genomic rearrangements, leading to recurrent structural breakpoints within the promoter region of a gene  called TERT. This data provides an important piece of the puzzle in solving kidney cancer. Artist Sang Eun Lee (Samsung Medical Center) translated that language into a mosaic rendering. Each piece represents scientific findings slowly filling in the gaps to reveal our increased understanding of kidney cancer. To read more about these findings see the full article in this edition of From the Labs.
