Healthy Habits: Dr. Holly Clayton enjoys spending time outside
It can sometimes be difficult to find ways to stay healthy, so we’ve asked members of our Baylor College of Medicine community to share what they do in their daily lives to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Dr. Holly Clayton, assistant professor in the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery, shares some of her healthy habits with us.
Q: What health decisions start your day?
A: Listen to your body.
Q: What is your go-to healthy breakfast?
A: Steel cut oatmeal with oat milk.
Q: What is your favorite type of exercise?
A: Running or walking outside! I love pairing time spent outside with exercise.
Q: What keeps you motivated during your workout?
A: The right playlist – usually fast-paced pop or EDM with some good drops.
Q: What activities do you do when you can’t fit in a full workout?
A: Chase my kids around, use them as added weight for floor exercises, take the stairs.
Q: What is your favorite healthful snack?
A: A fruit + greens + yogurt smoothie.
Q: Do you take vitamins and if so, which ones?
A: Daily women’s multivitamin.
Q: What do you include in your child’s lunch?
A: Apple or orange.
Q: How do you make an unhealthy recipe healthy (healthy substitutions)?
A: Swap out creamy sauces or dressings for lighter ones.
Q: What is your nighttime skin regimen?
A: Eye cream, face cream, red light mask.
Q: What hobbies do you have to help you relax?
A: Yoga, gardening, playing the piano.
Q: What is your go-to Houston restaurant for a healthy meal?
A: Local Foods.
Q: What is your favorite health tip that you live by?
A: If you’ve got on decent footwear and your legs are working, take the stairs.
