Healthy Habits: Dr. Olivia Ginnard enjoys yoga, walking
It can sometimes be difficult to find ways to stay healthy, so we’ve asked members of our Baylor College of Medicine community to share what they do in their daily lives to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Dr. Olivia Ginnard, instructor of pediatrics – nutrition, shares some of her healthy habits with us.
Question: What health decisions start your day?
Answer: Sunrise alarm clock to avoid snoozing and drinking a glass of water right away.
Q: What is your go-to healthy breakfast?
A: Eggs scrambled with cottage cheese and spinach, fruit on the side and protein coffee.
Q: What is your favorite type of exercise?
A: Yoga and inclined walking.
Q: What keeps you motivated during your workout?
A: Doing it with family or friends.
Q: What activities do you do when you can’t fit in a full workout?
A: Walking during lunch hour and/or after dinner.
Q: What is your favorite healthful snack?
A: Carrots and hummus.
Q: Do you take vitamins and if so, which ones?
A: Multivitamin.
Q: How do you make an unhealthy recipe healthy (healthy substitutions)?
A: Choose proteins wisely (i.e. ground turkey instead of ground beef or using low-fat cottage cheese instead of ricotta), add leafy greens (i.e. add spinach to lasagna or sauces).
Q: What is your nighttime skin regimen?
A: Cleanse, night cream (retinol or vitamin C serum or hydrating mask), and eye mask (not sure if they actually do anything but it’s relaxing and helps with mental wellness).
Q: What hobbies do you have to help you relax?
A: Reading, cooking.
Q: What is your go-to Houston restaurant for a healthy meal?
A: Hungry’s in Rice Village.
Q: Do you use an activity tracker or Fitbit and what is your daily step goal?
A: Apple Watch; aim for 8-10k/day.
Q: What is your favorite health tip that you live by?
A: Go for a walk after meals.
