Celebrating 70 years of victories
On July 12, 1943, Baylor University College of Medicine held inaugural classes on its initial Houston campus. Over the next five weeks, we’ll be looking back at the College’s history through accomplishments and photos, and then take a look toward our future.

From Boise to Baylor College of Medicine
An incoming BCM student is taking biking for a cause to a new level. Jared Rammell is biking 2,100 miles from Boise, Idaho, to Houston for his BCM orientation for the new Master of Science in Orthotics and Prosthetics program. Rammell will be raising money for the Range of Motion Project, an organization that provides orthotic and prosthetic care to patients in Guatemala.

While summer hasn’t officially started yet, it’s never a bad time to be thinking about sunblock. Have skin that’s easily irritated? Dr. Ranjani Katta, professor of dermatology at Baylor College of Medicine, says sunblock allergies are typically due to chemicals, fragrances or additives in the product. Advice includes: “Rather than not wear sunblock, look for brands that are fragrance-free and that contain physical, instead of chemical, sunblock ingredients.”
