Healthy Habits: Adequate rest, daily walks help Dr. Ronald Maag stay on track

It can sometimes be difficult to find ways to stay healthy, so we’ve asked members of our Baylor College of Medicine community to share what they do in their daily lives to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Dr. Ronald Maag, assistant professor of medicine-cardiology at Baylor, shares some of his healthy habits with us.

Q: What health decisions start your day?Dr. Ronald Maag-HH
A: Getting seven to eight hours of sleep the night before.

Q: What is your go-to healthy breakfast?
A: A banana with low-fat yogurt.

Q: What is your favorite type of exercise?
A: Jogging.

Q: What activities do you do when you can’t fit in a full workout? 
A: I try to walk more frequently at work and take the stairs instead of the elevator.

Q: What is your favorite healthful snack?
A: Apples.

Q: How do you make an unhealthy recipe healthy?
A: Replacing ground beef with ground turkey for meals.

Q: Do you use an activity tracker or Fitbit and what is your daily step goal?
A: I don’t use a tracker, but I try to walk 30 minutes every day.

Q: What is your favorite health tip that you live by?
A: Everything in moderation.
