Throwback Thursday: Women’s History
Today, in honor of Women’s History Month, we have a few images from the career of Dr. Janet Butel, Distinguished Service Professor of molecular virology and microbiology at Baylor College of Medicine.
Butel became a trailblazer after graduating from Baylor with a Ph.D. in Virology in 1966. She rose through the ranks at Baylor and became the first woman to chair an academic department. You can read more about her life in TMC News.
Looking through Baylor’s yearbooks prior to the 1970s, it is difficult to find a female student or professor. Today, Baylor is filled with women who shape lives through education, change lives through research, save live in healthcare and inspire through community efforts. Thanks to people like Dr. Butel leading the way, there will be more reasons to celebrate Women’s History Month in the future.
