What to expect when receiving a cochlear implant
If you or a loved one have ever experienced hearing loss, the cochlear implant may be an appropriate option to explore. Dr. Ross Tonini, an audiologist at Baylor College of Medicine, says what patients hear immediately after the implant is turned on varies and will change after a number of adjustments.
“My expectation of the first day is that the patient hears something. The next day, we’re going to fine tune it and change frequencies. The progress that we see in many patients is amazing. Bringing people back into a world with sound is a rewarding thing,” he said.
