Healthy Habits: Progress, not perfection
It can sometimes be difficult to find ways to stay healthy, so we’ve asked members of our Baylor College of Medicine community to share what they do in their daily lives to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Dr. Jeffrey Steinbauer, professor of family and community medicine, tells us what keeps him motivated during his workouts.
Q: What healthy decisions start your day?
A: I try to organize my day and have work done ahead of time to reduce stress.
Q: What is your go-to healthy breakfast?
A: Two things: DON’T SKIP BREAKFAST!; I eat a piece of fruit, a protein bar and hydrate (no caffeine)
Q: What is your favorite type of exercise?
A: Working in the yard or biking
Q: What keeps you motivated during your workout? (music, tv, phone call, etc.)
A: Listening to NPR (I’m a geek)
Q: What is your favorite healthy snack?
A: Almonds
Q: What do you include in your child’s lunch (if applicable)?
A: Healthy snacks for Henry that he loves are fruit (apples) and yogurt (in the tube)
Q: How do you make an unhealthy recipe healthy (healthy substitutions?)
A: Put salad dressing or sauce on the side
Q: What hobbies do you have to help you relax?
A: Woodworking
Q: What is your go-to Houston restaurant for a healthy meal?
A: Azuma or Mori Sushi
Q: What is your favorite health tip that you live by?
A: Healthy living is a matter of choice; it is progress, not perfection.
