Prevention is key to heart health
June is Men’s Health Month, a great time to encourage men to make choices aimed at prevention and early detection of disease.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death among men in the United States. Heart expert Dr. Christie Ballantyne, Baylor College of Medicine professor of medicine and director of the Center for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention at the Methodist DeBakey Heart Center, warns of heart disease symptoms to look out for.
Warning signs:
- Chest pain or discomfort, including pressure, squeezing, tightness, dullness or pain
- Chest discomfort that radiates to the neck, jaw or arm
- Shortness of breath, nausea, diaphoresis (excessive sweating) and pallor
