A work of art: The Baylor College of Medicine Art Show

Each year, for the last 12 years, the Graduate Student Council at Baylor College of Medicine has hosted an art show, benefiting the Arts in Medicine Program. This year’s art show took place from Aug. 5-8 and ultimately raised $1,842.90 for the program.

Texas Children’s Art in Medicine program strives to provide young cancer patients and their families with a creative outlet for coping – art. The program includes art education, a guest and performing artist series, and outreach, including opportunities for children with cancer to create and share art in many forms.

The art show included nearly 500 pieces – paintings, photography, handmade jewelry, scarves, and more – all created by students, faculty, employees and others, both from within and outside of Baylor.

“It was an extreme honor participating in the 12th Annual BCM Art Show,” said Trista Stokes, who works in the Office of Communications at Baylor, “I love how art helps encourage children and teens, and I was honored to create pieces that displayed my creative expression to a worthy cause. It was a joy to participate.”
