Healthy Habits: exercising with others motivates Dr. Julian Swanson
It can sometimes be difficult to find ways to stay healthy, so we’ve asked members of our Baylor College of Medicine community to share what they do in their daily lives to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Dr. Julian Swanson, assistant professor in the Margaret M. and Albert B. Alkek Department of Medicine, shares some of his healthy habits with us.
Question: What health decisions start your day?
Answer: A giant glass of water along with my daily vitamin D supplement (liquid sunshine).
Q: What is your go-to healthy breakfast?
A: Protein shake after morning workout.
Q: What is your favorite type of exercise?
A: Mix of cardio and weight training with good music.
Q: What keeps you motivated during your workout?
A: Working out with others (the best motivator).
Q: What activities do you do when you can’t fit in a full workout?
A: Walk around the neighborhood.
Q: What is your favorite healthful snack?
A: Apple and peanut butter.
Q: Do you take vitamins and if so, which ones?
A: Vitamin D: 2,000 units daily.
Q: What do you include in your child’s lunch?
A: A protein, a carb and some type of plant nutrition.
Q: What is your nighttime skin regimen?
A: Chemical exfoliant wash followed by moisturizer.
Q: What hobbies do you have to help you relax?
A: Exercise and lots of playtime with my son.
Q: What is your go-to Houston restaurant for a healthy meal?
A: Sweetgreen… soooo good and simply the best.
Q: What is your favorite health tip that you live by?
A: Stay active for my own health and, equally important, make sure I am keeping my marriage healthy (lots of counseling).
