Throwback Thursday: Summer Fun

The first day of summer is finally here. And while Houston is a bit cloudy this week, the sun will come out soon and start heating things up.

When the heat comes, we usually have one of two instincts. The first is to run to the air conditioning. The second is to bask in the glow of the sun. However, if you’re able, resist the urge to stay indoors.

This collage of photos from the 1947 Baylor Round-Up, courtesy of the Baylor College of Medicine Archives, show students participating in some classic summer activities. Lounging with your shirt off. Jumping off the high dive. Bringing a dog to the beach.

While you’re enjoying yourself, make sure to avoid heat exhaustion. And if you need to cool off after summer fun, or if outdoor activity isn’t an option for you, there’s still plenty to do. Consider a trip to an indoor museum to engage in some culture. There are plenty of free museums and museums with free admission days.
