Throwback Thursday: It isn’t a contest…
National Nurses Week 2015 wrapped up this week. It was a chance to appreciate the hard work and dedication of nurses across America. Back in 1921, the Baylor University Round Up yearbook celebrated nurses in their own way.
Photographed here in “glamour shots” that capture their style, Ruby Morrison was voted the Most Popular Nurse, and Sue McGuire was voted the Most Beautiful Nurse.
If you can’t make out the quotes, McGuire was honored with “Beauty is a virtue no less desirable than much gold.” And it was said of Morrison, “And all the whole world knew her, and counted her its friend.”
These days we honor our nurses not only for what they do as Baylor employees, but also for their work outside the office. For example, oncology nurse practitioner Meggin Crawford rides the Tour de Pink (benefiting the Pink Ribbons Project, which helps provide mobile mammograms for working women). And every year, Baylor nurses (and other health professionals) provide care to walkers in the Houston Avon Walk.
Nurses, past and present, we salute you.
