Raising money for cancer research can be 'hair razing' experience

Did you know shaving your head could help fund the future of children’s cancer research?

We’re Josh and Justin and we’re third-year medical students at Baylor College of Medicine who are organizing Baylor’s Second Annual St. Baldrick’s head-shaving event this weekend in conjunction with Texas Children’s Hospital. You may remember from last year’s event, St. Baldrick’s hosts head-shaving events throughout the country to bring together communities to raise awareness and funding for childhood cancer research.

Researchers at the College and Texas Children’s Cancer Center receive funding from St. Baldrick’s for the great work that they do, so it felt natural to us to work with St. Baldrick’s to host a head-shaving event in the Texas Medical Center. This year we wanted to grow and bring in more of the medical center to this vital cause.

Not only are we helping organize the event, but  we’re both shaving our heads (again) Feb. 1, to help fund the future of childhood cancer research.

We want to bring more awareness to childhood cancer so  more research dollars can go to helping these children who have so much ahead of them. Last year we were hoping this would become an annual event and we’re working hard to make this year’s function a great success!

Shaving your head may seem like a major sacrifice, but when you think about the future lives saved and the chance to change the course of pediatric cancer, it really is a small gesture for such an amazing cause.

Join us Saturday, Feb. 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Texas Children’s Hospital Clinical Care Center, 6791 Fannin St., 16th floor.
