Although it’s tempting, having a relaxing vacation doesn’t have to mean completely disregarding all exercise routines.
Dr. Luis Rustveld, registered and licensed dietitian and assistant professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, says that engaging in regular physical activity is always necessary and provides tips for ensuring exercise while on vacation.
- Consider going for a walk in the morning before starting activities for the day.
- Staying in a hotel? Make use of exercise equipment available in hotels – get on the treadmill or stationary bike for at least 30 minutes.
- Choose activities that will keep you active all day, such as going on a walking or bike tour of the city. Walking or biking is a great way to get to know a new city. You can also visit the local zoo. Or if you are vacationing in a city that has an amusement park, try going on the different rides.
- Consider bringing an exercise DVD with you or finding exercise videos on the Internet to help inspire a workout.
