Holocaust Remembrance Day: Dr. Ervin Adam’s story
Today, Monday, April 8, marks Holocaust Remembrance Day. Many people around the world are thinking of the past, whether it’s their own stories, those of family members or history as we can understand it.
It’s so important to remember and pass down family stories. Even when history is extremely difficult to think about, it’s vital to try to understand what went before.
Today, we think of Dr. Ervin Adam’s story, and all of his incredible achievements to date in the field of medicine.
Adam, professor of molecular virology and microbiology at BCM, has had a long and successful career: He helped eradicate polio in Prague, established the role of herpes simplex virus 2 in cancer, helped pioneer the practice of geriatrics in Houston and continued to follow women exposed to the drug diethylstilbestrol during pregnancies from 1940-1970. And he survived the Holocaust.
