Answer: Drinking water and eating a protein-filled breakfast.

Q: What is your go-to healthy breakfast?
A: Greek yogurt with honey (local, from within 100 miles of Houston), fruit (berries) and nuts (pecans are my favorite).

Q: What is your favorite type of exercise?
A: Heated power yoga.

Q: What keeps you motivated during your workout?
A: I want to be a fit 70-year-old and that starts now! I have a strong family history of diabetes and osteoporosis. Exercise is a great way to combat developing those problems.

Q: What activities do you do when you can’t fit in a full workout?
A: I take the stairs at work. I do squats and calf raises while I brush my teeth or wait for things to happen in the OR.

Q: What is your favorite healthful snack?
A: Banana or yogurt with honey.

Q:  Do you take vitamins and if so, which ones?
A: Calcium supplementation and a multivitamin pill.

Q: How do you make an unhealthy recipe healthy (healthy substitutions)?
A: I substitute fat-free where I can. Instead of sour cream, I use Greek yogurt. Instead of white flour, I use whole wheat flour. Instead of granulated sugar, I use sugar in the raw. I try to eat the healthier part of a meal first so that I am less hungry for the less healthy part.

Q: What is your nighttime skin regimen?
A: Wash face, a toner, a serum and face oil.

Q: What hobbies do you have to help you relax?
A: Reading and watching TV – mostly historical time pieces or sci-fi lite (my husband loves sci-fi).

Q: What is your go-to Houston restaurant for a healthy meal?
A: Local foods.

Q: Do you use an activity tracker or Fitbit and what is your daily step goal?
A: Yes – Apple Watch. I don’t have a step goal, but I typically hit 5,000 at a minimum.

Q: What is your favorite health tip that you live by?
A: Drink lots of water!
