Healthy Habits: setting goals motivates Alyssa Spina
It can sometimes be difficult to find ways to stay healthy, so we’ve asked members of our Baylor College of Medicine community to share what they do in their daily lives to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Alyssa Spina, athletic trainer in the Joseph Barnhart Department of Orthopedic Surgery, shares some of her healthy habits with us.
Question: What health decisions start your day?
Answer: I take vitamins to help boost my immune system and drink water.
Q: What is your go-to healthy breakfast?
A: Egg whites, tomatoes, wheat bread and avocado spread toast.
Q: What is your favorite type of exercise?
A: Cardio.
Q: What keeps you motivated during your workout?
A: Finishing the goal I set prior to working out whether it be (finishing within a certain) time frame or a (completing a) certain number of miles.
Q: What is your favorite healthful snack?
A: Bananas, peaches and mangoes.
Q: Do you take vitamins, and if so, which ones?
A: Lysine, a daily women’s multivitamin and a probiotic.
Q: How do you make an unhealthy recipe healthy with substitutions?
A: I’ll use avocado, coconut or olive oil as a substitute for butter. If the food is made of grains, I’ll make sure its wheat or whole grain.
Q: What is your nighttime skin regimen?
A: Washing with an antibacterial soap.
Q: What is your go-to Houston restaurant for a healthy meal?
A: Tropical Café
Q: What is your favorite health tip that you live by?
A: Good health starts from within.
