In this 1982 photo from the Aesculapian yearbook, courtesy of the Baylor College of Medicine Archives, an instructor (left) shows a crowd of students how to escape from a choke hold and retaliate with a strike.

Students come to Baylor to acquire skills that are necessary for their goal of becoming a world-class doctor, but that doesn’t mean they can’t learn something that may protect themselves or a loved one along the way.
