Experience the Smart Pod in virtual reality

You now have the opportunity to virtually experience what it’s like to be on the inside of a deployable healthcare facility.

In partnership with the Texas Medical Center, Baylor College of Medicine Global Initiatives is offering a virtual glimpse into the advantages of its Smart Pod, which was designed in the wake of the 2014 Ebola outbreak. It is a portable field hospital with all of the features of a modern healthcare facility.

Dr. Richa Shukla, assistant professor of gastroenterology and hepatology at Baylor, says the virtual reality experience provides an inside look into how the Smart Pod can be utilized.

“I think it is awesome to see it all come together. It gives you an idea of what can happen inside the pod and how we can actually execute it in the field,” she said.

Sarah Michel, senior project manager at Baylor Global Initiatives, says seeing the Smart Pod in virtual reality highlights its possibilities for mobilized care.

“It’s a great snapshot of how we envision the pod to be used. It gives you a glimpse of how our physicians would care for patients in an emergency situation,” she said.

To experience the Smart Pod in virtual reality, visit the Texas Medical Center section in Super Bowl LIVE at Discovery Green, 1500 McKinney St., through Sunday, Feb. 5. View photos from the experience below.
