Throwback Thursday: You’re getting sleepy…
These pictures from the June 1972 edition of Inside Baylor Medicine show Dr. Jack Tracktir, at the time an associate professor of psychology at Baylor, instructing a group of 15 medical students on using hypnosis for medical purposes.
According to the article which accompanied the pictures, Dr. Tracktir was in his 20th year teaching hypnosis classes.
“Despite that this is 1972, there is still much mysticism and superstition associated with hypnosis in the minds of some people,” Tracktir told Inside Baylor Medicine at the time. “But hypnosis must be viewed as a valuable and powerful adjunct in medical, psychological and dental therapy.”
Present-day psychiatry residents at Baylor still have the option to learn about hypnosis as part of postgraduate education.

I took this class with Dr Tracktir in the mid 1980’s and had forgotten how much I learned from him until I was watching a TEDX talk on youtube today.
