With an outbreak of MERS (Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome) abroad, concern is raised here in America about the illness.

Since MERS is fairly new – first reported in 2012 – it can get lost in the sea of medical acronyms. With that in mind, Dr. Peter Hotez, dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, explains what MERS is and who may be at risk.
