Throwback Thursday: Tropical Storm Allison’s Impact

This week’s flooding in Houston left Baylor College of Medicine unscathed, but images of large swaths of Houston underwater bring up memories of a time when we weren’t so fortunate.

Back in 2001 Tropical Storm Allison stormed through Houston and dropped enough water on the College to cause $495 million in damages. Years of research data and materials were lost.

Storms like Allison and the flood this week are a reminder of the harm a powerful storm can do. As of this writing, five people are reported dead in this week’s flood. With the hurricane season beginning next week, make sure you’re prepared.
