In 1969, the Baylor College of Medicine started work unraveling the mystery of the double helix. Today the College’s Department of Molecular and Human Genetics ranks nationally. But it all had to start somewhere.

The breakthrough

Mouse genetics and the establishment of automated gene sequencing transformed the way BCM looked at genes.

The Baylor Human Genome Sequencing Center was a key part in the international effort to map the human genome.
